Jewish Theology Unbound: Seeing God in Ourselves

from $72.00

with Sofia Freudenstein

When

Wednesdays - 3 Weeks
7:00 - 8:30 pm ET/4:00 - 5:30 pm PT
April 23 · April 30 · May 7

What happens when we break theology free from its traditional boundaries, where God is an angry man with a white beard in the sky? In Theology Unbound, we explore bold and transformative ways of thinking about theology that have arisen over the past few decades with the rise of feminist, queer, and disability theology.

By reading sources by and through contemporary theologians such as Mara Benjamin, Judith Plaskow, Rachel Adler, Joy Ladin, Julia Watts Belser, and others, we will explore how their contributions to the world of theology change the ways in which we see the Divine, holiness around us, and finding godliness in the human experience. How do feminist thinkers reimagine divine power? What can queer theology teach us about blurring of boundaries and norms? What happens when we imagine God in a wheelchair? Come explore these questions!

This class will be recorded and available to enrolled students to watch later.

Cost

This course is available at a sliding scale cost of $126 (the true cost), $99 or $72.

Meet Sofia

Sofia Freudenstein (she/her) is about(!) to be ordained as a rabbi from Yeshivat Maharat and a masters student in Jewish Philosophy. She sees textual accessibility in the Jewish world as a deeply radical act. She loves talking on the phone with friends and family, being outside birdwatching, and listening (and seeing - as a synesthete!) to music.
